Nearly 900 years ago, the abbess Hildegard of Bingen lived and worked in the beautiful Rhine valley. At about the same time, a convent for nuns was founded far up in the north, on the Bo island in the heart of Skåne.
Through the monasteries and convents, continental influences reached the northerners: news in medicine, food, music, and spirituality.
Hildegard was a superstar in 12th century Europe. She was a mystic, composer, writer, poet, preacher, botanist, physician, and political lobbyist. She used words, images and music to reach her contemporaries, almost a millennium before Instagram and Twitter were invented.
Bosjökloster Friends have organised an exhibition about this astonishing woman, in collaboration with Bosjökloster Castle and with the support of the Sparbanken Foundation.
The exhibition is held in Bosjökloster's medieval vaults, which once served as the convent refectory. Welcome to dip your toes into Hildegard’s world!
